The conference brought together over thirty experts, including renowned International Law scholars and political analysts, officials from the EU, NATO, and IMO, government officials from Denmark, Italy, Somalia, and Kenya, as well as representatives of the private sector (shipping industry and insurance companies). HUMANMED II is the sequel of “HUMANMED”, International Diploma in International Humanitarian Law.  The project is financed by the EU through a specific program (INTERREG III A ALCOTRA 2007-2013) which provides financial support for institutions, associations and local authorities, and is aimed at encouraging a wide range of initiatives and projects in the cross-border area between Italy and France.
The idea of HUMANMED II is to consolidate the training and teaching experiences of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) and the Institut de Droit de la Paix et du Développement-IDPD. The aim of this new program is to provide very specific post-graduate courses on International Humanitarian Law, Refugee Law and Migration Law, in a trans-border area where no such teaching program exists. Three Diplomas covering  the general, specific, theoretical, and practical aspects of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Refugees Law and Migration Law, are offered. The Diplomas are delivered by the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis. Language of the courses is French, with some  courses in English.
