The Regime of International Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict

The meeting on "The regime of International Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict" was held at Villa Ormond on 14th December 2009.
The event intended to mark the 10th anniversary of the Second Protocol to the Hague Convention of 1954 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict adopted on 26th March 1999.
The initiative, which was held under the patronage of UNESCO, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, was a collaborative effort on the part of the Institute of Sanremo and UNESCO in Paris in the promotion of the general rules of international law for the protection of cultural property in the event of armed conflict
Co-ordinatores of the meeting were Professor Edoardo Greppi from the University of Turin and Professor Massimo Carcione from the University of “Piemonte Orientale.
A photographic exhibition on the activities of protection, recovery and retrieval of cultural property in Iraq by the Carabinieri section for the protection of cultural property, and on the reopening of the Archaeological Museum of Baghdad, was realized in the halls of Villa Ormond thanks to the Italian Government.
