Accommodation
Accommodation and all other costs which are not covered by the registration fee will be at the personal expense of participants. The Institute can help with hotel bookings.

Application
Application has to be submitted one month before the beginning of the course, either using the electronic registration form (click here) or by requesting it by e-mail: panizzi@iihl.org 

Candidates are selected once their files have been carefully reviewed by a selection Committee headed by the Secretary-General of the Institute.

For organizational reasons and in order to preserve the quality of teaching, the number of participants admitted to each Course is limited. Needs and priorities in forming candidates originating from different countries and regions of the world, especially developing countries, are taken into consideration

Arrival/Departure
An IIHL Welcome desk will be open at Terminal 1 inside the customs area the day preceding the opening of the course. Please report to the desk before collecting your luggage. Collective transport to Sanremo will be organised on the same day.

Participants arriving at Terminal 2 are requested to pick up their luggage and make their way to  Terminal 1 using the airport’s free shuttle and then phone the IIHL Welcome desk from the Information desk at Arrivals.

Airport Authorities advise passengers to check in at the airport 90 to 120 minutes prior to flight departure.

Transport from Sanremo to Nice airport after the closure of the Course will also be organised according to the needs of participants.

Cancellation
In case of cancellation, you can obtain reimbursement if you make your request 1 week before the begin of the course. Requests made after this date will not be considered.

Certificate
Participants must respect the fundamental rules which apply to any academic institution.
Participants are expected to attend all courses and lectures regularly throughout the study session and respect the times indicated in the programme. Respect of these rules will determine whether or not a certificate of participation is granted at the end of the Course.

Climate
Sanremo and the Riviera enjoy a mild climate all the year round. The average temperature can be found on www.weather.yahoo.com

Currency
The euro is the official currency in Italy. At the present moment (2008) it is valued at
1 € - 1,48 US$. However, this rate is subject to fluctuation. Only euros are accepted in Sanremo.

We advise participants to change their money before their departure and to bring only US $ or euros as other currencies may be difficult or impossible to change. Most banks are open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 16.15 with a lunch break from 13.15 to 14.45. Major credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and shops.

All necessary course documents will be supplied by the Institute.

Dress code
Casual dress code is required during the courses.

Electrical Appliances and Presentations
Please note that Italian electrical plugs may differ to those used in your country.

Insurance - Travel and Health
It is the responsibility of each participant to have adequate travel and health insurance for the whole duration of this trip. In no circumstances can the Institute be held responsible for medical expenses incurred during a participant’s stay in Sanremo.

Internet
At the Institute, a computer room is available with access to Internet only (open during office hours) – a free wireless network is available for those wishing to bring their own computer.

Language
It is essential that participants have a good command of the working language of the course as they will have to consult working documents and follow lectures and debates. Simultaneous translation is not provided.      

Library
The Institute has a library on the first floor with approximately 4.000 volumes (texts, monographs, reports, reference material) in French, English, Spanish, Arabic and Russian. Photocopying facilities are also available.

The registration fee covers: participation at the Course, lunch and coffee breaks during working days, working documents, excursion, transportation from and to Nice airport, the official dinner and other social events. and the course photo.

Scholarship  
Eligibility for Scholarships: government officials and NGO personnel from developing countries responsible for the protection of  refugees and internally displaced persons.

Please note that there are two types of scholarships granted by IIHL: full scholarships and half scholarships. A full scholarship includes: (1) return ticket in economy class from the nearest international airport in the country of residence to Nice (France); (2) shuttle Nice-Sanremo-Nice; (3) full board accommodation in Sanremo; (4) registration fees and documentation. A half scholarship includes: (1) shuttle Nice-Sanremo-Nice; (2) full board accommodation in Sanremo; (3) registration fees and documentation. All other expenses will have to be borne by the participants.

As a very limited number of scholarships are available from the Institute, participants are strongly advised to contact governmental and/or non governmental agencies, international organizations, foundations, or other sources which may grant financial aid.

Please be informed that scholarships will only be granted to governmental officials from developing  countries who deal with refugees.

Travel
Sanremo is located in the northern part of Italy, approximately 140 km west of Genoa and 60 km east of Nice, France, where the nearest airport is  located (1-hour drive).

Upon your arrival in your hotel you will find a welcome letter together with instructions on how to reach the Institute and a map of Sanremo.

Registration (at the Institute): in order to receive your course documentation, please register between 8.30 and 9.00 the day the course starts.

Visas
Participants are requested to make their own arrangements with regard to obtaining valid travel documents such as visas, passports, etc. Participants from countries needing a visa are expected to obtain a several entries Schengen visa before their departure, which can take up to three weeks. Be aware that a visa is also required for transit for United Kingdom and the USA and sometimes the Netherlands).

N.B. It is not possible to get a visa on arrival at the border.
